Packing a Basic First Aid Kit
One of the most important situations you must be prepared for is a
medical problem. You might only suffer from a minor cut or scrape,
but without proper treatment that cut could cause a major
discomfort.
Ready-made first-aid kits are available for purchase, but it's
best if you assemble your own basic kit with the items described
below.
- Adhesive Bandages: Use these to keep small cuts and
blisters covered and clean.
- Bandages: These are useful for a variety of purposes,
from keeping dressings in place and binding wounds closed, to
tying up broken limbs to prevent further damage.
- Gauze Padding: Gauze pads absorb blood and keep wounds
clean while they heal.
- Safety Pins: Can be used to secure bandages, and as
temporary sutures.
- Painkillers: These should be saved for when you really
need them most.
- Scissors: A very important tool. You should buy a
high-quality pair with a blunt nose.
- Antiseptic: Antiseptic wipes are good for cleaning
wounds, and the cream will prevent infection and help healing in
minor wounds.
- Corn Pads: Lifesavers when it comes to blisters and
other foot problems.
- Triangular Bandage: Can be used to make a sling, for
supporting a broken arm, or as a bandage.
