If the hole isn't big enough to slip the bottom portion of the clamp through, carefully enlarge it until it will just fit. Wetting the clamp first will make it easier to insert if a tight fit. Ensure the rubber seal on the edges of the clamp are properly seated and the top and bottom clamps are aligned together before tightening the wing nut. The wrist lanyard at the top of the wire "tail" is for use if the repair must be made over the side of the raft, to prevent loss. Finally, the last step is not illustrated. After the wing nut is tightened and you are sure the repair is airtight, the malleable wire "tail" is wrapped around the threaded stem and wing nut to prevent it from loosening.
